Hope in Every Sachet: Help RCDO Feed 360,000 Meals to Sudan's Malnourished Children

In a small clinic in Kassala state, nine-month-old Omer clings to life. Born in displacement after his family fled violence in Khartoum, he has battled malnutrition twice since birth. His mother Rasha watches him with exhausted eyes. "We have been suffering since the war began," she says quietly. "I don't have enough breast milk to support my child" .

Across Sudan, children like Omer are fighting a battle they never chose. Their tiny bodies weaken. Their eyes grow dull. Their smiles fade. And without urgent intervention, many will not survive.

But there is hope. And it comes in a small red sachet.

Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) is a nutrient-rich peanut paste packed with powdered milk, butter, vegetable oil, sugar, and essential vitamins and minerals . It requires no preparation, no refrigeration, and no clean water. A severely malnourished child can be restored to health in just six to eight weeks with a course of this life-saving food .

Rural Community Development Organization (RCDO) has been working in Sudan since 2007, delivering impactful programs that address the needs of vulnerable communities across the country . Today, we are launching our most urgent mission yet: to provide 360,000 therapeutic meals to malnourished children in Sudan's hardest-hit communities.

The numbers are staggering. In 2025, an estimated 770,000 children under five in Sudan will suffer from severe acute malnutrition—the deadliest form of hunger . Without treatment, these children are 11 times more likely to die from disease than their healthy peers . Famine conditions have already spread to at least five locations . And for every child like Omer who reaches a clinic, countless others remain hidden in displacement camps, unreached and untreated.

RCDO is on the ground, working through partnerships with UNICEF and other organizations to reach these children . We support health facilities, mobile clinics, and community outreach programs that screen, diagnose, and treat malnutrition. We train community volunteers to identify danger signs and refer children for care . We ensure that when a mother brings her dying child to a clinic, the medicine she needs is there.

But we cannot do it alone. We need you.

Your support funds the sachets that bring children back from the brink. Each $1 provides multiple meals. Every donation, no matter the size, translates directly into life-saving nutrition for a child who has nothing else.

Consider Amal, born underweight to a mother trapped by conflict in Khartoum. At just three months old, she became malnourished. "She stopped playing and cries a lot," her mother Basmat told us. But after receiving RUTF at a clinic, Amal began to recover. "Since we received this food, Amal is eating more and is doing much better. I hope she heals and grows up happy" .

Consider Yadin, 11 months old, whose mother brought her to a mobile clinic in River Nile State. "When I brought my daughter, she was very sick. Her body was weak, and her eyes looked tired." With treatment and RUTF, Yadin is improving. "Since she started the supplement, she is eating better" .

These children are not statistics. They are daughters and sons, brothers and sisters. They have names, faces, and dreams. And with your help, they have a future.

Join RCDO in turning $180,000 into 360,000 meals—and 360,000 chances for children to survive and thrive.

Your gift today means:

  • A severely malnourished child receives therapeutic food

  • A mother watches her baby gain weight and strength

  • A community gains a healthier, more resilient generation

The red sachet is more than food. It is hope, healing, and a second chance at life .
