Women’s Resilience in Conflict: Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance
Women’s Resilience in Conflict: Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance

بواسطة Sabah Alsudan for Development Organization (SDO)

Since the outbreak of the conflict in Sudan in April 2023, the country has witnessed a severe deterioration in economic and living conditions, with rising displacement levels, loss of livelihoods, and increasing food insecurity. Displaced and host community households face limited employment opportunities, high prices, and declining agricultural production, which has increased their vulnerability and reliance on humanitarian assistance.
Amid the ongoing conflicts in Khartoum, South Darfur – Korma Camp, and North Darfur – El Fasher, many conflict-affected women are exposed to multiple risks, including sexual exploitation and gender-based violence, alongside significant difficulties in securing their families’ basic needs.
Even before the conflict, a large proportion of households in Sudan were headed or economically supported by women. Since the outbreak of the war, women’s burdens have increased significantly, as many have become the sole providers for their immediate and extended families due to the loss, separation, or disappearance of male household members and the collapse of income sources.
Women-headed households now face severe economic hardship, limited employment opportunities, low levels of education and skills, and heightened vulnerability to food insecurity. These conditions also increase protection risks, including exposure to exploitation, abuse, and harmful coping mechanisms employed to secure food and basic necessities for their families. Existing gender inequalities further limit women’s access to resources, income opportunities, and decision-making, making them disproportionately affected by the ongoing crisis.

Project Objective
The project aims to economically and socially empower conflict-affected women by providing Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA), enabling them to:
• Meet their families’ essential needs according to their priorities.
• Reduce dependence on humanitarian aid.
• Strengthen resilience against economic and social challenges.
Project Intervention Focus
The project places women, especially women-headed households, at the center of its interventions by:
1. Prioritizing women in livelihood activities and multi-purpose cash assistance.
2. Enhancing economic independence and reducing reliance on humanitarian aid.
3. Creating sustainable opportunities for economic recovery and improved food security.
Target Group
• 500 female household heads in the targeted areas
• Priority given to the most vulnerable women facing severe economic pressures
How the Project Works
1. Beneficiary Selection: Identify the most vulnerable women within the targeted areas.
2. Cash Assistance: Provide multi-purpose cash or vouchers that women can use to purchase essential needs according to their priorities.
3. Risk Mitigation: Reduce reliance on negative coping mechanisms that could expose women to sexual exploitation or forced labor.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Conduct Post-Distribution Monitoring to ensure safe and effective delivery of assistance and gather feedback to improve the process.
Key Project Indicators
• Number of women benefiting from cash assistance (500 targeted women)
• Percentage of women able to meet their families’ basic needs after distribution
• Decrease in reliance on negative coping mechanisms
• Monitoring reports indicate safe and effective use of funds
Expected Results
• Economic empowerment of women and reduction of financial burden on families
• Decreased risk of sexual exploitation and gender-based violence
• Increased self-reliance and independence for beneficiaries
• Support for social and economic stability in conflict-affected communities
Project Monitoring Focus Areas
• Safety and Privacy: Ensure assistance is delivered safely without exposing women to risks.
• Actual Use: Verify that vouchers and cash are used to purchase essential needs.
• Project Impact: Measure the effect of assistance on women’s resilience and economic independence.
• Potential Risks: Monitor for any signs of sexual exploitation or violence and address them immediately in coordination with relevant authorities.

Budget
• Total Project Cost: USD 450,000

Visualize Impact: Convert these metrics into infographics or progress bars for donor updates.

Storytelling: Pair each metric with a short story or example from a beneficiary.

Transparency: Show ongoing results to build trust and recurring support.

Focus on Outcomes: Emphasize how donations change women’s lives, not just inputs (money spent).

Restore Fishermen’s Livelihoods in Sudan
Restore Fishermen’s Livelihoods in Sudan

بواسطة Sabah Alsudan for Development Organization (SDO)

The Fisheries Livelihood Support – Gedaref State project aims to restore livelihoods for conflict-affected fishers and vulnerable households in Al-Mafaza, Fal Al-Nahl, and Al-Rahad areas of Gedaref State, Sudan. The project will provide essential fishing equipment, boats, and fish preservation tools, alongside practical training in fish handling, processing, value addition, and marketing. By strengthening fishing livelihoods, the project will improve household incomes, enhance food security, and increase the resilience of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable host communities.
Background
Sudan has been facing a severe humanitarian crisis since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023. The ongoing fighting has led to widespread displacement, economic collapse, and significant disruption of livelihoods across the country. Millions of people have been forced to leave their homes, while rising food prices, unemployment, and reduced agricultural production have severely weakened household coping capacities.
Food insecurity has reached alarming levels, with millions of people struggling to access sufficient and nutritious food. The disruption of farming, livestock production, and local markets has further reduced food availability and income sources for vulnerable households.
In eastern Sudan, particularly in Gedaref State, the arrival of large numbers of internally displaced persons (IDPs) has placed additional pressure on already limited resources and livelihood opportunities. Many families are increasingly relying on alternative livelihood activities such as fishing to secure food and income.
The influx of displaced people has also increased the number of fishers, while the available fishing resources and equipment remain very limited. Many of the existing fishing tools have become old, damaged, and difficult to repair or replace due to the economic crisis and lack of access to markets. As a result, fishers are forced to rely on very limited and inefficient fishing methods.
Consequently, many fishers who are the primary breadwinners for their families now face serious threats to their livelihoods due to the loss or deterioration of fishing equipment and their inability to afford new tools. This situation has significantly reduced their capacity to sustain fishing activities, placing their households at greater risk of food insecurity and economic hardship.
Supporting fisheries livelihoods therefore represents an important opportunity to strengthen food security, restore income sources, and improve the resilience of both displaced and host communities. By equipping fishers with the necessary tools and skills, communities can increase local food production while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Weaving Hope: Help Dara Development Organization Establish the Manawashi Handicraft Center in Sudan
Weaving Hope: Help Dara Development Organization Establish the Manawashi Handicraft Center in Sudan

بواسطة Dara Development Organization

Across the villages and towns of Sudan, skilled hands work tirelessly weaving, carving, stitching, and shaping. For generations, Sudanese artisans have preserved the soul of their communities through traditional handicrafts: intricate baskets, hand-carved wooden tools, vibrant textiles, and leatherwork passed down through families. These crafts are more than objects; they are living heritage, stories woven into every thread and etched into every grain .

But today, this heritage is at risk. Years of conflict, economic collapse, and displacement have scattered communities and severed the chains of craft knowledge passed from elder to youth. Artisans who once sustained their families through their skills now struggle to find materials, markets, or a place to work with dignity .

Dara Development Organization is answering this crisis. We are establishing the Manawashi Handicraft Product Development Center—a dedicated space where Sudanese artisans can gather, create, learn, and thrive. This center will serve as a sanctuary for endangered crafts, a workshop for skill development, and a gateway to markets beyond Sudan's borders.

Here, a woman who fled violence can rediscover her grandmother's weaving patterns and earn an income. A young man can learn leatherworking from a master artisan, carrying forward a tradition that might otherwise disappear. A community can see its cultural identity preserved, celebrated, and shared with the world.

The Manawashi Center will provide:

-Safe workspace for artisans to create with dignity
-Vocational training to pass skills to the next generation
-Product development support to refine designs for modern markets
-Business training to help artisans become self-sufficient entrepreneurs
-Market connections so beautiful Sudanese crafts reach buyers who will treasure them

Your support does more than build a center. It protects a culture. It empowers an artisan. It tells a master craftsperson that their life's work matters. It gives a young person not just a skill, but an identity and a future.

Join Dara Development Organization in weaving a stronger, more hopeful Sudan, one thread, one artisan, one masterpiece at a time.

A Hot Meal Is Hope: Help Shams Organization Feed Displaced Families in Gaza
A Hot Meal Is Hope: Help Shams Organization Feed Displaced Families in Gaza

بواسطة Shams Organization

In Gaza, the simple act of sharing a meal has become a distant memory. Families who once gathered around tables laden with traditional dishes now huddle in tents, schools, and the rubble of destroyed homes, wondering where their next meal will come from .

After more than 15 months of war, over 90% of Gaza's population has been displaced—2 million people living in makeshift camps, overcrowded shelters, and damaged buildings with no protection from the winter cold . Hospitals are shuttered. Markets are empty. And for countless families, hunger has become a daily companion.

Shams Organization is on the ground, working tirelessly to change this reality. Our Emergency Food Distribution Campaign provides freshly prepared, nutritious hot meals to displaced families across Gaza—families who have lost everything and now depend on humanitarian aid to survive .

Through community kitchens established in partnership with local volunteers, we prepare family-size meals sufficient for 3-5 persons, ensuring that each meal reaches those who need it most . Our field teams distribute these meals directly to displaced families living in tents, vulnerable households in hard-to-reach areas, and community gathering points across northern, central, and southern Gaza .

We give special priority to the most vulnerable: orphans who have lost parents to the violence, elderly individuals suffering age-related illnesses with no one to care for them, widows and single mothers struggling to feed their children, patients with chronic diseases like kidney failure and cancer, and malnourished children whose bodies are crying out for protein and warmth .

Your support does more than feed a hungry family. It restores dignity. It tells a displaced child that they are not forgotten. It allows a mother to sit with her children without the crushing weight of providing a meal she cannot afford.

In Gaza right now, hundreds of thousands of people receive hot meals daily through community kitchens like ours—each meal a lifeline, each plate a promise that someone cares .

Join Shams Organization in turning your generosity into nourishment, and nourishment into hope for Gaza's most vulnerable families.

Donate today. Be the reason a family in Gaza eats tomorrow.

Bring Hope to Gaza's Tables: Help Shams Organization Provide Meat & Chicken

In Gaza, a simple meal of meat or chicken—once a normal part of daily life—has become a "postponed wish and a heavy dream" for families exhausted by war and poverty . As winter grows harsher and the blockade tightens, thousands of families are surviving on canned goods and foods with little nutritional value, while children, in particular, go without the protein they desperately need to grow and stay healthy .

Shams Organization is on the ground, working to change this reality. We are dedicated to providing nutritious, protein-rich meals—including fresh meat and chicken—to families facing food insecurity across the Gaza Strip. With commercial refrigerators destroyed, storage systems collapsed, and prices skyrocketing, obtaining a complete meal has become a daily struggle between need and impossible cost .

By supporting this campaign, you aren't just filling bellies; you are fueling futures. You are giving children the strength to learn, parents the energy to rebuild, and elderly individuals the nourishment to endure with dignity. Your generosity brings the warmth of a cooked meal to tables that would otherwise be bare.

Join Shams Organization in transforming lives one meal at a time. Together, we can turn postponed wishes into reality.

Light Up Their Ramadan: Provide a Hot Iftar Meal to Gaza's Fasting Families
Light Up Their Ramadan: Provide a Hot Iftar Meal to Gaza's Fasting Families

بواسطة Shams Organization

In the holy month of Ramadan, the streets of Gaza should be filled with the aroma of cooking and the warmth of family gatherings. Instead, for thousands of vulnerable families, the approach of iftar brings anxiety rather than anticipation. With ongoing economic hardship, relentless siege, and food prices soaring beyond reach, securing a single nutritious meal has become an overwhelming daily struggle.

Shams Organization, in partnership with the central kitchen of Tkiyet Al-Rahma, is working tirelessly to change this reality. Our Ramadan Meals Campaign is dedicated to providing freshly prepared hot iftar meals to families who have lost everything—families who would otherwise break their fast with little more than bread and water.

Through our central kitchen, we prepare balanced, nourishing meals daily using safe and high-quality ingredients. These meals—rich with the protein and warmth that fasting bodies need—are then distributed directly to targeted households and community gathering points across Gaza. We give special priority to orphans who have lost parents to the violence, elderly individuals enduring the cold alone, widows carrying the weight of their families, and households with no stable income.

Your support does more than feed a hungry family. It restores dignity. It tells a child that they are not forgotten. It allows a mother to sit with her children at iftar without the crushing weight of providing a meal she cannot afford.

This Ramadan, be the reason a family breaks their fast with hope instead of hunger. Join Shams Organization in turning donations into nourishment, and generosity into lasting impact.

From Seed to Harvest: Help Alradom Organization Empower Families to Feed Themselves

In the villages of South Darfur, a farmer stands at the edge of his land, watching the sky for rain that seems to never come. His family is hungry. His livestock are weak. The seeds he saved from last season are gone, eaten when there was nothing else.

He does not want charity. He wants to work. He wants to plant, to tend, to harvest. He wants to feed his children with food he grew himself, with dignity and pride.

Alradom Organization believes he should have that chance.

Sudan's Remote Communities Have No Access to Healthcare: Oxfam Mobile Clinics Are Their Only Hope
Sudan's Remote Communities Have No Access to Healthcare: Oxfam Mobile Clinics Are Their Only Hope

بواسطة Oxfam International

The call comes from a displaced mother in a camp with no clinic. Her child has had fever for three days. She has no medicine, no transportation, and no money. She doesn't know if her child will survive the night.

This is not one story. It is thousands of stories, repeating every day across Sudan.

Since conflict erupted, over 11 million people have been displaced . Health systems have collapsed. Hospitals are destroyed or unreachable. And in the remote camps and villages where displaced families have sought safety, there is nothing.

Malaria goes untreated until it kills

Diarrhea dehydrates children until they cannot recover

Women give birth on dirt floors with no one to help

Chronic conditions like the paralysis afflicting Tereza's son become lifelong burdens with no care

Snake bites turn deadly because no antivenom exists

Oxfam is responding, but we cannot reach everyone without you.

A Pencil, A Book, A Future: Help Sabah Alsudan Send 5,000 Children Back to School

In a displacement camp in North Darfur, a young girl named Fatima wakes up early every morning. She watches the other children walk past her tent, their worn uniforms clean and their secondhand books clutched tightly. She watches them disappear down the dusty road toward the school she cannot afford to attend.

Fatima wants to learn. She dreams of becoming a teacher, a doctor, something that will lift her family out of the poverty that has defined their lives. But her family, like millions across Sudan, faces an impossible choice: food or school fees, medicine or books, survival or education.

No child should have to make this choice.

A Drop of Vaccine, A Lifetime of Protection: Help Sabah Alsudan Reach 10,000 Children

In a displacement camp in North Darfur, a mother holds her baby close. She fled her village with nothing—no home, no belongings, no certainty about tomorrow. But she has hope. Hope that her child will survive. Hope that someone will reach them with the vaccines that could mean the difference between life and death.

Her name is Amal. Her baby is named Yadin, just 11 months old. When they arrived at a mobile clinic, Yadin was weak, her body tired, her eyes dull . But there, she received more than food. She received protection. Vaccines that will guard her against diseases that have stolen too many children already .

Break the Cycle: Help Sudan's Families Build Businesses, Not Depend on Aid

In Sudan, a hand extended for help is seen every day. But what if that hand could hold a tool instead? What if it could weave, bake, sew, or build?

For families across Sudan—especially those displaced by conflict, widows caring for children alone, and youth with nowhere to turn—poverty is not just a lack of money. It is a trap. Years of conflict, economic collapse, and displacement have stripped away not only homes and possessions but also dignity and self-reliance . Too many families have been reduced to waiting for aid, not because they lack ambition, but because they lack the one thing that could unlock their potential: opportunity.
